History
Our Beginnings

Educational Praxis (Praxis) is a non-profit organization started in 1998 by Teacher Janaki Natarajan to continue the work started by her mother in Southern India. The organization was originally called Friends of Bapagrama, in support of the educational institution started by Saraswathi Natarajan in 1949. Janakis friends and fellow educators, Nancy Aldrich and Claire Olglesby, joined Educational Praxis which quickly became a community organization. Educational Praxis organizes educational endeavors and institutions in the United States, India, Japan and the world. Praxis serves as an umbrella for a variety of organizations including Spark Teacher Education, Indigo Institute and Bapagrama Educational Center, to name a few. Since the inception of Educational Praxis, it has offered programming to support equity and justice in the Southern Vermont community and beyond. These activities include film screenings, artistic productions, teacher education, and cultural groundings.

What We Do:

Education:

We work with universities, schools and non-profit organizations in the United States and beyond to organize and sponsor lectures, training workshops, cultural events and teacher education seminars designed to critically examine local and global struggles. We organize Theater and Creative Arts projects which integrate peoples/folk art and justice in curricula and fosters cultural exchange. These activities aim to strengthen solidarity among people from various communities based on common peoples experiences.

Community Actions:

Involve: We offer Lecture and Film series on issues pertaining to education, health, agriculture, environment, among others that provide an opportunity for creating connections among our communities.

Inspire: Our members are available for facilitation work on diversity and other issues in the community, in schools and other educational institutions.
